Scientific conference "Money in Russian history: issues of production, circulation, existence".

The nearest - the third - conference is scheduled for October 2020. An information letter will be published on the website of the Museum of Money History.

International conference "Money in Russian history. Issues of production, circulation and existence" is organized by the exhibition complex of JSC "Goznak" and is held on the basis of the Museum of Money History. It complements the tradition already established in Russia of holding periodic scientific symposiums on numismatics, bonistics and related disciplines. The main objective of the conference is to discuss problems related to numismatics and bonistics in Russia, as well as to study the broad historical context of coins and banknotes.

By the beginning of each conference, a collection of materials is issued, which is given to conference participants and also sold at the museum shop.

For the first time, the conference "Money in Russian History. Issues of production, circulation, existence" was held in October 2018. Since then it has been held annually.

Conference 2019

The second international scientific conference "Money in Russian history: issues of production, circulation, existence" was held in the Museum of Money History of Goznak JSC on October 16-18, 2019. This year, apart from the plenary session, the conference program included thematic sections: "Production and circulation of coins" (in different historical periods), "Production and circulation of paper money" (in different historical periods), "Monetary circulation in the territory of the Russian Empire in 1914 - 1922", "Treasures and coins in archaeological monuments", "Monuments of numismatics, bonistics, faleristics in museum collections and the history of their study", "Money in written sources and fiction". The conference was attended by over seventy specialists, including representatives of the State Hermitage Museum, the State Russian Museum, the Yaroslavl Museum Reserve, the Institute of Archaeology of Crimea, the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and many others.

By the beginning of the conference, the St. Petersburg Mint has traditionally issued commemorative tokens with individual numbers in "silver" and "gold" versions. The "silver" token was intended for the speakers, the "gold" token for the leading sections and organizers; some tokens were received by the museum collections.

Conference 2018

The first scientific conference "Money in Russian history. Issues of production, circulation, and existence" was held on October 18-19, 2018 in the House of Stock Capital of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The program included six thematic sections: "History of coin production", "History of banknote production: technologies and artistic design", "Treasures: problems of attribution, description, preservation", "Issues of history of circulation of coins and banknotes", "Written sources and history of study of coins and banknotes", "Monetary circulation in the former Russian Empire in 1918 - 1922". The conference was attended by over fifty specialists from Russia, Belarus, Sweden, Slovakia and Latvia. Among the Russian participants there were representatives from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tver, Kursk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Tula, and Yaroslavl. The participants and guests of the conference were employees of the largest scientific centers of Russia: the State Hermitage Museum and the State Historical Museum, the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Higher School of Economics, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg State University, the Russian National Library, regional local history museums and other organizations. Especially for the conference, the Saint-Petersburg Mint, a branch of Goznak JSC, minted a commemorative token in two versions - in melchior and tompak. The first tokens are designed for speakers, the second - for section chairs and colleagues who actively contributed to the conference. The design of the token is based on the sketch of the medal "On correction of the coin business", made by the scientist and inventor Andrey Andreyevich Nartov in the 1770s.
